Friday, September 30, 2011 0201 On Friday September 30, 2001 at 0201 hrs, Claymont, Brandywine Hundred and NCC EMS units were dispatched to I495 NB at Philadelphia Pike for an MVC with entrapment. B13 arrived on scene at the corrected location of I495 NB at Mrytle Avenue at 0203 hrs and advised that there were 3 victims heavily trapped in 1 car. Rescue 13 arrived on scene at 0209 hrs and began extraction of the victims after completely stabilizing the car. Extraction involved removal of both the drivers side door and the " B " post, removal of the roof, and dashboard displacement. All victims were completely extricated from the car at 0238 hrs. Two victims were transported by ground while the third victim was flown to CER via Trooper 4 for further evaluation. Deputy Chief Haley had the Claymont Command
Thursday, September 22, 2011 In early morning of Friday September 16, 2011 New Castle County Police Sergeant Joseph J. Szczerba mas murdered in the Line of Duty after being stabbed by a suspect. Sergeant Szczerba was an outstanding police, friend and a true leader.Since his death, New Castle County has posthumously awarded Sergeant Szczerba the Medal of Honor which has never been awarded before in the department's 98 year history. Sergeant Szczerba was also promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Both his Sergeant and Lieutenant Badge numbers will be retired by New Castle County.The Claymont Fire Company family sends it's heartfelt sympathies to his wife Kathy and the entire Szczerba Family along with the New Castle County Police Department.THANK YOU JOE SZCZERBA FOR YOUR SERVICE AND FOR MAKING THIS COUNTY AND STATE A SAFER PLACE.
Saturday, August 27, 2011 The area was under a hurricane watch and warning for most of Saturday and Sunday for Hurricane Irene. Claymont had over 30 members on hand to provide staffing of apparatus and respond to calls from Saturday 1800 - Sunday 1800. The calls ranged from wires down, trees down, flooded basements, structure fires, motor vehicle accident, trees into houses with structural collapse. The members had responded to 61 alarms during Saturday 1800 - Sunday 1930. The officers would like to thank the membership for their support during this event, great job done by all.
Friday, August 26, 2011 Claymont assisted with an Engine 132 and Ladder 13 on a 2 alarm commercial structure fire located at 198 Hay Road. Engine 113 went on location with fire showing from the roof. Tower 11 and Squrt 20 went to work with master streams on the roof while crews worked to gain access from the interior to the roof to finish with extinguishment. Engine 132 supplied Tower 11 and Squrt 20 with water supply. Ladder 13 went into service with master streaqm operations also. Crews worked for several hours with extinguishment and overhaul. Tuesday, July 26, 2011 Claymont was dispatched for Ladder 13 to assist Station 39 Linwood ( Lower Chichester, Pa ) on a residential fire. Engine 39 arrived with a two story end of the row townhouse with smoke showing from the second floor. Engine 39 secured their own water source and operated as the first due engine assignment. Truck 63 arrived and assumed the first due special service and operated in the main fire building ( search and rescue, overhaul ). Ladder 13 arrived and assumed the second due special service and operated in the exposure B ( search and rescue, horizontal ventilation ) and vertical ventilation ( main fire building ) and placed several ground ladders. Ladder 13 operated for approximately 1.5 hrs before being released by command. Assistant Chief Ryan Fuller ( Linwood Fire Company ) had the command. Sunday, July 10, 2011 Claymont, Brandywine Hundred, Talleyville, Holloway Terrace and Medic 4B were dispatched for a residential fire.Assistant Chief Bob Lynch arrived on location with a 1 story ranch with smoke showing.Rescue 11( assuming first due special service ) and Engine 132 ( assuming first due engine ) arrived and worked accordingly. Crew from Rescue 11 found a fire located in the basement of the residence, crews from R11 and E132 extinguished the same.Fire Chief ed Hassel had the " Claymont Command "Thank you Brandywine Hundred for the pictures.
Friday, July 8, 2011 Claymont was dispatched for a RIT assist Station 20 ( Holloway Terrace ) on a residential fire.Assistant Chief Bob Maxwell went on location with a 1 1/2 story residential dwelling with smoke showing.Rescue 13 responded under the command of F/F Mark Harris and set up on the alpha side with command. Rescue 13 crew performed a 360 of the dwelling and placed several ground ladder on all sides.Rescue 13 was in service for approximately 1 hr 15 min.Thank you Holloway Terrace for the pictures.
Wednesday, July 6, 2011 Claymont was dispatched for a RIT assist Station 20 ( Holloway Terrace ) on a auto scrap yard fire with extension into a storage building.Rescue 13 responded under the command of Deputy Chief Eric Haley and set up on the alpha side at the command post.Rescue 13 was in service for approximately 1 1/2 hrs.Thank you Holloway Terrace for the pictures.
Wednesday, June 29, 2011 Claymont and Brandywine Hundred were dispatched for an MVC with a roll over.A13 arrived and found a pick-up truck over the guardrail overturned with one injury.Patient was treated by A13, ALS 22 and Medic8B and transported to Crozer for further evaluation.R13 and R11 assisted with securing utilities on the vehicle.R13 officer had the " Claymont Command "
Thursday, June 23, 2011 Claymont was dispatched for a RIT assist Green Ridge on a commercial structure fire.Delco E63 arrived with smoke showing with an active fire in the structure. Crew from E63 stretched a hand line and fire extinguishers for fire suppression of a magnesium fire.Several employees were evaluated and treated for burns.Rescue 13 arrived and set up RIT operations on side Alpha and was assisted by Delco Media 23.Fire Captain Harris ( Green Ridge ) had the command.
